The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) have told 16 companies who offer sale and rent back deals, to back up the claims they make in their advertising. These deals are the ones where you can sell your property at a discount and then stay in it as a tenant and pay rent. These are taken out by those struggling to pay their mortgage.

Last year the OFT reported that this might not be the best option for an individual and some people had been evicted far too quickly. They have ordered these firms to substantiate their claims and if it finds any unfair and misleading practices they may take action which could in prosecution.
