Rightmove reports increase in market activity

Rightmove, the UK's largest property search website, has recently reported that they have had one of their busiest ever weeks in the period ending 11th July, which suggests that confidence in the property market is returning.

They said that the combination of improving buyer interest and the lack of fresh housing stock coming onto the market is driving the numbers which adds further clout to the argument that the UK property market is starting to recover.

Rightmove's property listings hit 6 year low

According to Rightmove's House Price Index the number of new properties on the market has hit a 6 year low and is down 57% on the same time last year. Rightmove listed 79,000 properties compared to 182,000 in the same period last year. This is the lowest March figure since 2003.

In addition to this, the asking prices on Rightmove have risen 0.9% this month which is an average of £1,918.

Sellers put up prices even though now is a 'bad time to sell'

Rightmove has recently reported that 9 out of 10 home movers s have said that now is a ‘bad time to sell’, yet falsely optimistic New Year sellers are following the seasonal trend and have raised asking prices by 1.2%.

Upward pressure has been put on initial asking prices by the continuing lack of new stock on the market as estate agents search for spring listings. Currently, estate agents are competing for a woefully low 75,140 new sellers compared to 137,442 last February.
